In response to National education Opening-up strategy and “Double first-class”construction strategy, cultivating new era medical talent with interdisciplinary knowledge background, Zhejiang University deepened cooperation with the University of Western Australia(UWA) to open up the new international joint training project.This year is also the 30th anniversary of the Sister State-Province relations between Zhejiang and Western Australia. On November 11th, Zhejiang University & University of Western Australia Global Clinical Medicine Program Launching Ceremony was held in the Foreign Affairs Office of Zhejiang Province.

According to the introduction, this is a five-year program. Students are trained at the University of Western Australia for 1.5 year, majoring in basic medical courses. After graduation, students can obtain a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences from the University of Western Australia and a bachelor's degree in clinical medicine from Zhejiang University. The start of the project will be conducive to cultivate compound talents with the international vision and the ability to be engaged in biomedical and clinical work, marking the new step in ZJU’s internationalization of clinical medicine undergraduate education. The UWA will usher the first batch of clinical medicine students from ZJU in 2018.

Hon Mark McGowan, the Premier of Western Australia, Dawn Freshwater ,the Vice-Chancellor of the UWA and Zhaohui wu ,the president of ZJU, attended the launching ceremony and delivered the speech. The ceremony was presided over by Yonghua Song, the Executive Vice-president of ZJU. Hon Suzanne Ellery, Minister for Education and Training Leader of the Government in Western Australia，Iain Watt，the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Minhao Zheng, Associate Dean, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at UWA, the Head of Zhejiang University International Relations department, Undergraduate department and School of Medicine, student candidates also attended the ceremony.

The University of Western Australia is a public research university in the Australian state of Western Australia. The university also belongs to the “Group of Eight” of Universities in Australia. Since established in 1911, UWA has been one of Australia’s leading universities. An agreement between ZJU and UWA was signed in 2005.During these years, ZJU has interacted with UWA frequently and seeks the win-win development strategy between both universities. The delegation from Zhejiang University School of Medicine also visited the UWA and discussed the joint clinical medicine in November,2015. After one year and a half, both medical school signed the agreement on the Joint Clinical Medicine Program in May,2017
