Michigan State University Delegation Visits Zhejiang University School of Medicine

The delegation from Michigan State University visited Zhejiang University School of Medicine on May 16, 2010. The members of delegation include Dr. Marsha Rappley, Dean of College of Human Medicine; Dr. Brian Mavis, Director, Office of medical Education Research; Dr. Zhehui Luo, Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Dr. JR Haywood, Chair of Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology.

The two institutes discussed the details of student exchange program. Dean Marsha Rappley interviewed and selected six students as the first exchange group form Zhejiang University School, and they will do 2 months family medicine electives in the teaching hospital of Michigan State University. School of Medicine also plans to choose 1-2 students from the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and College of Pharmaceutical Science to attend the summer school for research skill training at MSU. The two sides are also interested in set up a program aiming to give combined ZJU & MSU degree. Students in Zhejiang University finish 3-4 years undergraduate education, then go to Michigan State University for further studies and complete postgraduate studies. This joint project can be carried out at Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Public Health and College of Pharmaceutical Science.

The delegation gave a speech on the medical education at MSU, which was warmly welcomed by teachers and students. During the visit, the delegation also visited the Faculty of Public Health, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital and the affiliated Children's Hospital.
